"The Centaur is a mythical creature, part human and part horse.  They are liminal kymera, caught between their dual natures: one half untamed and full of animal passion - the human half, proud, wise and just.  Like the Centaur, Sarah’s work appears to bridge the gulf between separate approaches to painting; becoming a hybrid of abstract and emotionally charged fields coupled with imagery suggestive of deep psychological mysteries.  Partly representations of the visible world and partly speculative fictions of unseen forces surrounding us, the paintings and drawings are themselves often hybrids of different materials in which patterns mix with primitive, expressionistic imagery. The result is difficult to characterize, but they are reminiscent of artists like Odilon Redon and Gustave Moreau; full of strange beast and symbolic dreamscapes both fearsome and poetic, as unpredictable and baffling as the Centaur of myth."
