Cristina González (RAiR 1998-99)
Cristina González was commissioned as the first artist to design an installation for the Window Box project of the newly opened, New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary. The title of her piece, “Apapachando la Matria” loosely translates to "holding with tenderness (or caressing) the rematriated self.” The artwork contains layers of images that are cut, painted, drawn and reflected, with shadows activating the space throughout. The installation will be on view from September 2023 - November 2023.
The Window Box Project at Vladem Contemporary houses a series of installations created by New Mexico-based artists and is accessible throughout the year to any and all interested passersby. Similar in appearance to a storefront window, this project provides an engaging way to experience local, museum-quality art without the need to actually enter the museum.
