May - June AMoCA Activities
The entrance to the Anderson Museum parking lot got a little more welcoming with the addition of recycled landscaping glass. Museum Director Nancy Fleming and her sister Roselie Janus from Lakewood, Colorado, shoveled, raked and leveled a 6-foot x 13-foot strip of ground before adding a mesh weed-control fabric, edging, and then filling with the sparkling glass acquired from Arrowhead Glass in Santa Fe.
AMoCA hosted vocalist Rollah Aston and pianist Wataru Niimori's "Great American Songbook" performance on Friday, June 17.
AMoCA is participating in the Roswell UFO Festival's annual passport scavenger hunt July 1-3. Festival attendees locate specified objects in local venues then enter a drawing to win prizes. Main Street Roswell sponsors the passports which has proved over the years to be a great way to funnel tourists to AMoCA. It was Debra Smith (RAiR 2009-10) who coined the phrase "Come for the Aliens, Stay for the Art!", and that never rings more true than during the UFO Festival Weekend.
