Guillermo Gómez-Peña and Balitronica (RAiR Guest Artists 2022)

Guillermo Gomez Pena and Balitronica Gomez, core members of the performance group La Pocha Nostra, came to the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program for a one-month stay.

Their stay at the residency was marked by a small presentation at the Anderson Museum of readings, divination and films. They also spent time filming at locations in the Roswell area. One prominent theme explored was alien bodies in cultural flux at the epicenter of popular alien consciousness.

Guillermo Gómez-Peña is a performance artist, writer, activist, radical pedagogue and artistic director of the performance troupe La Pocha Nostra. Born in Mexico City, he moved to the US in 1978, and since 1995, his three homes have been San Francisco, Mexico City and the "road".

His performance work and 21 books have contributed to the debates on cultural, generational, and gender diversity, border culture and North-South relations. His artwork has been presented at venues across the US, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Russia, South Africa and Australia. A MacArthur Fellow, USA Artists Fellow, and a Bessie, Guggenheim, and American Book Award recipient.

Balitronica Gomez is a cyborg poet, performance artist. She holds an MFA in Poetry and Queer Theory from Mills College. She currently tours with Guillermo Gómez-Peña and La Pocha Nostra.
