Mobiles add movement to stairwell — find out who made them!
Founder Donald B. Anderson's office (now archive) at the Anderson Museum is located 'above' the museum offices and is visible to visitors because of its partially glassed-in stairwell. One needs to just look above the Kelli Vance "K.O." painting, past Robbie Barber's "Rocket Trailer", and in front of Robert Jessup's cut-out painted life-size figures, to see the slowly moving handmade satellites! The mobiles were part of Kelly Newcomer's 2002 RAiR exhibition at the Roswell Museum, and were made in collaboration with two of her fellow RAiRs - Edie Tsong and Kumi Yamashita! Edie knew the mechanics and "how to" of mobile-making, and Kumi provided small thin cardboard boxes from Japan (part of the inspiration for Kelly to make the satellites!). The three artists also used RAiR artist brochures and junk mail to become the imaginary 3D satellite world which complimented Kelly's exhibition of colorful 2D satellite paintings and drawings.
