Martie Memories

More than 60 people in person - and about 18 via Zoom - held a memorial for Martie Zelt (RAiR 1982-83) at the Anderson Museum on June 11. The wide-range of participants included family, friends, former students, and fellow RAiRs. Here are a few of the beautiful phrases caught at the event:

Art student from Philadelphia: "(Martie) is one of the reasons I'm an artist today."

Neighbor: (Even though our political and religious views were polar opposites) “Martie said to me, ‘you're not afraid of standing up for what you believe, and I love that’ ."

Friend: (Martie) was a colorful cosmopolitan character!

Art dealer: (Martie) had East Coast energy with a Latin flair!

Retired Museum Director: (Martie) was innovative, feisty, a respected teacher, a magnet for feral felines, celebrated the earth with her artwork, and it's lucky for us to be able to continue to see her work today.

Rossano Sportiello Piano Concert

The gallery looked beautiful, the cake tasted divine, and the Maestro played SUPERBLY! Thanks to Michael Francis of Southwestern Arts Alliance for setting up the concert, and to Jody Leonard and Jere Smith for organizing the event! The sell-out crowd sang Happy Birthday to Rossano, led by local vocalist Tom Blake.

Rossano will be back in Roswell in 2024 for the annual Roswell Jazz Festival as its Guest of Honor!

Remembering Donald Anderson

Three years ago on June 7, 2020, RAiR founder, artist and businessman Donald B. Anderson passed away at the age of 101. We remember him fondly with this picture of his studio taken recently. Thanks, Don, for All Things RAiR!
