Santa Fe Opera film screening of Donizetti’s The Eixir of Love
A film screening of the Santa Fe Opera’s production of Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love was held at the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art on Sunday, February 9.
A lively pre-screening discussion was given by Oliver Prezant, a conductor and educator (see photo), which put the opera in historical context and discussed themes in this and other operas.
The Elixir of Love toured New Mexico in celebration of the opera’s 67th Festival Season and the season of love, the Santa Fe Opera invited opera fans and newcomers to enjoy free screenings in Roswell, Albuquerque, Espanola and Los Alamos.
The Santa Fe Opera was last in Roswell in 2023 when they brought a touring version of Menotti’s one-act comic opera The Telephone.
Oliver Penzant, a conductor and educator with the Santa Fe Opera gave a lively pre-screening discussion about the specific opera and opera in general.
“A charismatic con-artist peddles a questionable love elixir. Will it help our not-so-clever mechanic win his gal’s heart? The Santa Fe Opera presents The Elixir of Love, a tale where laughter flows as freely as Chianti, along with a furtive tear. Prepare to be delighted as the lovers find their footing and the elixir does its job.”

Miranda Howe Farewell
Miranda Howe (RAiR 2012-13), who worked at the Anderson Museum for 10 years has stepped down from her work at the museum to devote herself to both her ceramics practice and to the Bone Springs Art Space in Roswell, which she founded and has developed. Over 10 years at the Anderson Museum Miranda has enthusiastically commanded a great breadth of knowledge regarding the AMoCA Collection and RAiR alumni, and among many other things, she dedicated herself to the Collection’s display and AMoCA’s education access for children and students.
At Bone Springs, MIranda holds exhibitions, art classes, has open pottery studio access and event rentals. Since the temporary closing of the Roswell Museum, Bone Springs has worked with the museum to absorb some of the art classes and pottery studio access that the museum had offered to the the Roswell community. Check out Bone Springs here. We’ll miss her, but will certainly work together with Bone Springs in the future.
