Cristina González

Born in San Antonio, Texas, Cristina Gonzáles (1971- ) obtained her BA from Yale University in 1993 and her MFA from the University of Washington in 1997. Her work explores the tension and beauty of Chicana Mestizaje - embodying a mixed-heritage, bilingual and bicultural life. Between 1995 and 2018 Cristina participated in over thirty solo and group exhibitions. Her paintings are in the public collections of, amongst others, the Carlsbad Museum and Art Center, New Mexico and the New Mexico Capitol Art Foundation, Santa Fe. Cristina has contributed to collaborative art projects, notably the permanent steel sculptural memorial “Warrior’s Repose” at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. From 2010-2016 she was the Founding Chair of Visual Arts, New Mexico School for the Arts and was nominated for a USA Fellowship in 2016. Cristina currently lives and works in Santa Fe.
