Deborah Aschheim

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Deborah Aschheim (1964- ) graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Anthropology (Honours) and Studio Art in 1986 from Brown University, Rhode Island. She followed this up with a MFA in Ceramic Sculpture at the University of Washington, Seattle. Aschheim makes installations, sculptures, and drawings about memory and place. Using a combination of art forms including drawings, sculptures, artifacts and interviews, Deborah’s installation focused on the Richard Nixon and Vietnam War era. She has exhibited at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Oficina de Proyectos Culturales in Puerto Vallarta; Suyama Space in Seattle; and San Diego State University. She has created permanent public artworks for the Sandler Neurosciences Center at Univerity of California, San Francisco; Amazon.com in Seattle; the City of Sacramento; and for the Los Angeles Police Department. Grants include the California Community Foundation, the Center for Cultural Innovation, City of Los Angeles, and she has been a visiting artist in the Neurology Department at University of California, San Francisco; Headlands Center for the Arts; McColl Center for Art + Innovation; and the MacDowell Colony.
