Edward Vega

Known for his monumental sculptures, Edward Vega (1938) was born in Deming, New Mexico and became a long-standing resident of Albuquerque after attending university there. He obtained his BFA in 1968 from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces and his MA in 1970 and MFA in the early ‘80s from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. From 1976 ‘Ed’ was the head of the art department of the University of Albuquerque for ten years. His pieces are shown in the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History and the New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe. Ed’s work in the film industry on set designs started in 1985 and included twenty movies. He was promoted to art director in 1996 and made eleven more films. In 2009 Ed was awarded the New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts.
