Jerry Bleem
Jerry Bleem, an artist, teacher, writer, Franciscan friar and Catholic priest, earned his MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and his M.Div. from the Catholic Theological Union at Chicago. Bleem examines the cultural construction of meaning by looking at what we discard and by transforming the non precious through time-intensive accumulation. From 1992 to 2018 Jerry participated in over 175 solo and group exhibitions in the United States and internationally. He won the Illinois Arts Council Artist Fellowship Award in 1995, 1997, 2001 and 2004. His work is in the public collections of, amongst others, the Museum of Art and Design, New York, the Arizona State University Art Museum, Tempe and Bank Street Arts, Sheffield, UK. Jerry has participated in several residency programs, and has been teaching at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago since 2000. Jerry’s writings investigate the intersection of art and religion in a monthly column for US Catholic magazine; his essays have appeared in journals and exhibition catalogs.
