Johnnie Ross 

Abstract painter and New Mexico resident Johnnie Winona Ross (1949- ) studied at Washington University in St Louis, Missouri where he earned his BFA in 1971. He graduated with a MFA in 1973 from the University of Illinois in Champaign. He was awarded the Rowell Artist-in-Residence Grant twice and multiple residencies elsewhere: the Artist-Residence, Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris, France; Artist-Residence, Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, California; International Individual Support Grant, Gottlieb Foundation; and the Artist-Residence at the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque in 2003 and 2006. His work is in public collections including: the Tucson Museum of Art; the Portland Museum of Art in Maine; the Harwood Museum of Art in Taos, New Mexico; the New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico; Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo, New York; and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
