RAiR | 1978-79

Lynda Long

Born in Henderson, North Carolina, Lynda Long (b. 1955) was the youngest RAiR resident at the time. She moved from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to New York on a scholarship and the George B Memorial Award for Painting to gain her BFA in Painting from Syracuse University in 1975 and her MFA in Painting from Queens College of the City University of New York in 1977. By the age of 22, her figurative paintings were shown in the First Street Gallery in New York City. In 1978 Lynda wrote: “I have been painting from direct observation for a while now and intend to keep doing so for a while more – another reason being that this practice is also somehow connected to the reason I paint at all.”
