Michele Bourque Sewards

Born in St Louis, Missouri, lithographer and painterly monototype printmaker Michele Bourque Sewards (1944- ) received her BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics in Alfred, New York in 1966 and completed her MA at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque in 1970. Attracted to the Southwest, she remained in New Mexico, living in Placitas since her graduation. Michele’s inspirations are derived from nature. She plays with these forms in abstract ways and enjoys using animals, birds, flowers and landscapes to create her images. She still likes working in a square format, which she first began using in the Birds suite she printed during her residency. Michele’s work is held in the Indianapolis Museum of Art in Indiana and the New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe.
