Richard Bowman

Californian abstract painter Richard Bowman (1918-2001) was born in Rockford Illinois but spent most of his life in the San Francisco Bay area. Richard is believed to have been one of the first major artists to use fluorescent paint in the 1950s. He obtained his BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1942 and his MFA from the University of Iowa in 1949. From 1949 to 1963 Richard taught at Stanford University in California and exhibited at the Rose Rainbow Gallery in San Francisco between 1959 and 1977. During this period, he participated in the RAiR program for three months.
