Robbie Barber

Sculptor Robbie Barber (1964- ) was born in Williamston, North Carolina. He received his BFA in Sculpture from East Carolina University, Greenville in 1987 and travelled west to continue his studies, gaining a MFA from the University of Arizona, Tucson in 1991. After returning to North Carolina in 1992, he received a Southern Arts Federation/NEA Regional Visual Arts Fellowship in Sculpture, and a North Carolina Arts Council Visual Artist Fellowship, both in 1993. In 1994, Robbie moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, to teach Sculpture and Metalsmithing at Midwestern State University. He left in 2000 to teach at Baylor University in Waco, Texas as an Associate Professor of Sculpture. In 2007 Robbie was a founding member of the Texas Atomic Iron Commission, comprised of sculpture educators dedicated to the dissemination of iron casting as an approach to art making. He has exhibited widely throughout the United States in over 150 solo and group shows, including exhibitions at Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City, New York, the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and the Grace Museum in Abilene, Texas, just to name a few.
