Robert Russell 

Robert Russell (1939- ) was born in Rochelle, Illinois and lived most of his life in Pittsburg, Kansas. He earned a BFA at the Kansas City Art Institute in Missouri in 1961 and an MFA from the Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1963 before teaching at Pittsburg State University in Kansas from 1967. In addition to his Roswell residency, Robert participated in the residency programs at the Idaho State University at Pocatello in 1982 and at Hanover College in Indiana in 1991. As an abstract painter in the early 1990s, Robert solo-exhibited at the Jan Weiner Gallery in Kansas City, Missouri, the Lewallen Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico as well as the Jack Meier Gallery in Houston, Texas. His work is in the public collection of the El Paso Museum of Art in Texas.
