Robert Tynes
Known for his contemporary ‘trompe l’oeil’ works, Robert Tynes (1953) was born in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. He received a BA with Honors and Distinction in Art in 1975 from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee and a MFA in Painting from East Carolina University, Greenville, in 1981. Robert held over twenty-five solo exhibitions and participated in more than 150 group shows across the country. From 2007-10 he was listed in the 61st, 62nd, 63rd and 64th editions of Who’s Who in America. From 1987, Robert worked at the University of North Carolina, Asheville, both as a Professor of Art in Painting and Drawing and also as the Director of the university’s S. Tucker Cooke Gallery. His pieces are in the public collections of, amongst others, the Black Mountain College Museum, North Carolina and The National Arts Club, New York.
