Sue Hettmansperger

Sue Hettmansperger (1948- ) was born in Akron, Ohio and lived much of her early life in New Mexico. While attending the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, she attained her BFA in 1972 and MA in Lithography and Drawing in 1974. She attended the Yale Summer School of Music and Art in 1971 on a Fellowship grant. From 1977, she became a Professor of Art at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Years later, Sue received a 2008 Guggenheim Fellowship in painting. She had several solo shows at A.I.R. Gallery in New York City, New York where she was an affiliate since 1989. Serving as emblems of the current conflicted ecological awareness we embody as a culture, her works present a collision of disparate configurations and iterated trajectories, provoking thought about cultural attitudes and perceptions of our place in nature.
